Bereavement is a form of loss which we all suffer at some point in our lives and we do usually have the opportunity to come together with others to acknowledge and process this loss at a funeral. But we also suffer many other losses - relationship breakup, loss of employment or home, loss of health or physical capacity children leaving home, which are often not acknowledged in the same way. We’re expected to just pick ourselves up and carry on. Often we do ride it out and recover, but sometimes an act of acknowledgement of our loss, and the resulting change in our lives, can help us process that change, bringing acceptance of the new state of things and hope for the future. Alongside my work as funeral celebrant I also specialise in creating bespoke ceremonies for people who feel that such a ceremony may be of help. Sometimes it’s an individual person, sometimes it’s a group, perhaps a family, or a group of friends or work colleagues. I use the age-old model of the Rite of Passage to help facilitate the psychological and emotional transition from one state of being to another, allowing clients to come to acceptance of their loss and begin to look forward to their new future with hope and energy. The basic fee for creating a one-off ceremony is £250. This includes one meeting of 2 hours to talk about your reasons for wanting to undertake the ceremony, what you would like to come out of it, and options for the ceremony itself, and my creating and leading a ceremony of up to 45 minutes’ duration. If, after the initial discussion you feel happy to create and carry out the ceremony without further assistance, the fee is reduced to £200. If more meetings are needed and/or the ceremony will be longer than 45 minutes, this is charged at £20/hour. If you would like to talk further about a Loss and Hope Ceremony, please get in touch using the contact details at the top of the page, or fill in the form on the Contact me page. Like anyone else I have to make a living, but I do appreciate that not everyone who might benefit from a Loss and Hope Ceremony will have the resources to pay, so I do allocate a few places each year for a reduced cost service. Please do get in touch if you’d like to discuss this. Loss and Hope Ceremonies
